The Marquette Board of Light and Power, in its continuing efforts to provide low-cost, reliable, and safe electric service, will begin implementing an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project. This will further enhance customer service while saving the utility money by improving system losses and metering accuracy.

HD Supply, Inc. has been selected by us to help implement the meter exchanges and will be working in conjunction with our personnel. While you are not required to be home during the exchange, a technician will knock on your door before beginning work. The technician will have a clearly identifiable uniform, vehicle, and MBLP identification badge.

At the time your meter is to be changed, the contractor will attempt to notify you by knocking on your door to let you know. If you are not available or do not answer, a notice will be left at your door to tell you that the work was performed. On the day the work is completed, your service will be interrupted briefly while the old meter is removed and the new meter is installed.

If you currently read your meter, you will need to continue to read your meter until you start receiving regular AMI billings. For the first two months after your new digital meter has been Installed, the days in your billing cycle may vary plus/minus a number of days, affecting the amount of your bill.  Please be assured this will only be for the first two months.  Your billing cycle will return to its normal schedule after this adjustment period.”

When fully deployed, the new AMI system will provide you with the following benefits:

· Meters can be ready daily and on-demand to better assist you in managing your monthly electric use.

· The need to estimate your bill will be eliminated.

· The ability to interface with mapping devices enabling the timely dispatching of service crews

· We will have more detailed information about outages, and therefore will have the ability to verify that power has been restored to all affected before our crews leave the area.

· Tenancy changes will be handled more efficiently as our customer service representatives will be able to access metering information in near real-time.

Every effort will be made to make the transition to the AMI system go as smoothly as possible for you. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
